The 9 Worst Mistakes Hess's Law Worksheet Rookies Make—and How to Avoid Them

To keep your self-awareness on track, I recommend Hess’s Law as a quick way to assess your own behavior.

I'm not sure I've ever come across a situation in the real world where a self-aware person wouldn't go to jail for a crime they didn't commit .

And no, I don't believe Hess's Law is perfect. For example: It can be a little too easy to slip up and get caught when your brain isn't fully awake. I've seen this myself, and I've also seen some really crappy people who get caught in the act.

You might be wondering, but if Hess's Law works so well, why not make it a rule for everyone in the office? Because the longer the workday goes on, the more likely someone will get caught. As a rule, if you break a rule, you fail the test. You fail the test because you didn't do what a rule says.

Most people are in the same boat .

They get caught more than once, and fail the test. They just cant figure out how to avoid it. To help you avoid these mistakes, you can make it a rule. This way, you don’t have to worry about getting caught every single time. If you get caught, you should get the best treatment possible. Make a rule, make it clear that you break the rule, and dont make it again. The other thing that can affect a rule is if you do it too often, you can get caught. If you get caught with the same mistake again and again, it is probably the rule that needs breaking. So, for example, if you put a pencil in a jar, you should not keep putting pencils in jars. This one is tricky. The most important thing to remember is that if you break a rule just because you are doing something that just wasn’t right, then your rule is broken. So, instead of just saying, “I got caught,” you should say, “I broke rule X because I was doing something else that was wrong.

Not all rules are created equal .

Hess's Law says that you have to make sure that each time you attempt to break a rule you should be sure that you're not breaking a rule. For example, if you ask someone to stop, you have to follow through and follow through with the reason. If you do not follow through, then the rule is broken and you get caught. Even a good ruler can screw up a rule. Sometimes the rule requires you to do something that you dont want to do. And so you end up breaking that rule. Your best bet is to simply tell them why you did what you did (or what you felt was the best course of action) and let them figure it out.

That rule is not a "rule" at all. It is a principle .

A command in the form of a rule that you should follow. If you dont follow the rule, then your ruler has no authority. The rule is the idea that you have to follow through with what you say youre going to do. The rule is not a rule. It is a principle. A command in the form of a rule that you should follow. It is a command that you should do what you say you are going to do. If you dont follow the rule, then its not your rule. Its just your command. You cant make your command to do something you dont want to do a rule. So if you dont want to do something, dont do it.
