The last recession was a recession for the people, and a lot of the consequences were felt by the people in the wealthiest brackets. In all honesty, the people in the middle- and lower middle-income brackets took on the brunt of the losses. The people in the higher-income brackets didn't experience the same downturn as the people in the lower-income brackets, but they are still experiencing it.

In terms of your own individual financial security, you are not alone. We live in a society in which our economic status is determined by the ability to pay our bills, a status that is based on a lot of factors. Wealth, education, location of residence, and so on. It's not just a numbers game anymore, and we have to start paying attention to how those factors are affecting us. The problem is that nobody here seems to be willing to pay attention to the economic downturn.

It's as if the rich guys get everything they want and the poor guys get nothing.

The rich guys got their money, so they had to borrow more money to continue their lifestyle. That also means that the poor guys are getting screwed. And this is where the saying “I am above the law” comes in.

This is where the saying comes into play. If you're rich enough that you can afford to borrow money to continue your life style but you don't have any money to loan out, you might think you have some power to get things done. But you don't. You can't get out of bed in the morning, you can't pay your bills, and you can't have any kind of government power. You are above the law.
